"Mount Hood" Strawberry

In years gone by, fields in the Willamette Valley of northern Oregon grew an amazing strawberry that became the bench-mark for summertime flavor. This is the same old-fashioned strawberry that flourished for decades and became a commercial success for such well known food processors like J. M. Smucker, Birds-Eye frozen foods, and many other well know products.

The huge crops of "Mt. Hood" strawberry streched from the west side of Portland all the way to the base of their namesake, Mount Hood to the east. Unfortunately, due to severe infection and low tolerance to fusiarium wilt, this superior, mouth-watering strawberry was almost wiped out of existance in the late 1980's.

Thanks to the deligence of a few Northwest berry growers, this variety can still be enjoyed fresh on your table or in your favorite desert again. Through careful crop protection measures we are able to offer the familiar Summertime taste of June-bearing "Mt. Hood" strawberry again, but, supplies are very limited.

Comments: A classic June-bearer that is famous for its yields of deep red, tasty berries. Mt. Hood plants set fruit from early June and into July. They are very easy to grow and will do well in most northern climates. Plant both June-bearers and everbearers for a constant supply of fresh fruit. High sugar content. Does best in very fertile soil. Some tolerance to the wet weather of Spring. Protect from late season freezes as this is how wilt may initially set in. A perfect desert berry, highly prized for its flavor, size, and shape.
