"Whopper" Strawberry

A few years ago, a leading plant breeding program in Middelrode, Holland developed a brand new Strawberry plant which produces berries FOUR TIMES the size of ordinary Strawberries!

When we first decided to offer Whopper Strawberries, we were concerned that you would think we were exaggerating if we promised you a Strawberry would be so large that one would fit in your hand – and fill it up!

Would you believe it if we said that 85% of the berries would be 3 or more inches in diameter huge, solid, and sweet?

This is possibly the biggest strawberry of all time! Produces juicy fruit that can be as big as peaches! Our Whopper Strawberries are a prolific, finely flavored Junebearer. Strawberries announce the arrival of summer, bearing juicy red fruits loaded with sweet flavor. They’re among the most versatile fruits you can grow. Use them in pies, on shortcakes, in jams and jellies, or simply pluck them from the garden and enjoy! Any surplus is easy to freeze, too.

Zones: 5 - 10 (-10° F.)
Height: 14 - 24 inches
Spacing: 12 - 24 inches
Depth: set crowns just above soil level
Spread: 14 - 30 inches
Sun/Shade: full sun
Pollinator: self
Yield: up to 4 pints
Foliage: wide, over-sized, dark green
Blooms: March-June
Fruit: Extra large, solid and juicy; well seeded.

Comments: They are very easy to grow and our variant will do well in most climates. Outgrows or is resistant to most insect damage. Plant both June-bearers and everbearers for a constant supply of fresh fruit. High sugar content. Does best in very fertile soil. This is no joke, the biggest problem with these plants is they grow too well. Be ready to pick more berries than you would expect. As with most Oregon strawberries, this variety is bred for taste, and should be eaten or processed the same day of picking. Abundant watering is required, plants also make an excellent ground cover. Only 50 to 100 plants is all that is needed to supply an average family of four with plenty of year-long strawberry treats.
